Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric to launch in India on November 4

Mercedes-Benz will launch the GLC Electric in India on November 4, bringing the locally assembled electric SUV with a 489bhp dual-motor setup and claimed 715km WLTP range.

Mercedes-Benz will launch the GLC Electric in India on November 4, 2026, with the electric SUV to be locally assembled at the company’s Chakan facility in Pune. Bookings for the new model will open in the first week of October.

The GLC Electric will initially be offered in the 400 4MATIC specification in India.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric: Powertrain and range

The India-spec GLC 400 4MATIC will use a 94kWh NMC battery pack and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. The electric motors develop a combined 360kW, equivalent to 489bhp, and 800Nm of torque.

The electric SUV can accelerate from 0-100kmph in a claimed 4.3 seconds, while its top speed is rated at 210kmph. Mercedes-Benz claims a WLTP range of up to 715km, although the technical specifications list a range band of 568-715km depending on configuration and conditions.

The GLC Electric is based on an 800-volt electrical architecture and supports DC fast charging at up to 330kW. Mercedes-Benz claims the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in 22 minutes, while up to 305km of WLTP range can be added in 10 minutes under specified charging conditions. AC charging is supported at up to 11kW as standard, with 22kW charging available as an option.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric: Bigger dimensions, more space

The electric GLC measures 4,845mm in length, 1,913mm in width and 1,644mm in height, with a 2,972mm wheelbase. The wheelbase is 84mm longer than that of the combustion-engined GLC, with Mercedes-Benz claiming an additional 47mm of rear legroom.

The SUV offers 570 litres of boot space, which increases to 1,740 litres with the rear seats folded. It also gets a 128-litre front luggage compartment, while kerb weight stands at 2,535kg.

The GLC Electric can tow up to 2.4 tonnes and has a permitted drawbar load of 100kg.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric gets MBUX Hyperscreen

One of the key highlights of the new GLC Electric is its 99.3cm (39.1-inch) MBUX Hyperscreen. The seamless display combines the digital instrument cluster, central infotainment screen and passenger display into a single visual unit.

The SUV gets the fourth-generation MBUX system with artificial intelligence technology from Microsoft and Google. Mercedes-Benz's Multi Agent Approach enables the virtual assistant to handle more complex, multi-turn conversations, while Google Cloud's Automotive AI Agent is integrated for navigation-related queries.

Another highlight is the SKY CONTROL panoramic roof, which uses switchable glass that can be made transparent or opaque. The ambient lighting system can also display 162 illuminated stars through the roof.

Air suspension and rear-wheel steering

The GLC Electric comes with AIRMATIC air suspension with intelligent suspension control. An optional rear-wheel-steering system can turn the rear wheels by up to 4.5 degrees, reducing the turning circle from 12.1 metres to 11.2 metres.

The electric SUV also gets a One-Box braking system that integrates regenerative and friction braking. Regenerative braking can provide up to approximately 300kW, with four recuperation levels — D-, D, D+ and D Auto.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric: features and safety

The GLC Electric is equipped with Mercedes-Benz's MB.DRIVE driver-assistance system, which uses data from up to 10 external cameras, five radar sensors and 12 ultrasonic sensors. Depending on specification and market, the system can offer features such as adaptive cruise control, steering assistance, lane-change assistance and automated parking.

Other features include DIGITAL LIGHT with micro-LED technology, a transparent-bonnet function for off-road driving, TERRAIN mode, KEYLESS-GO with hands-free access and a range of active and passive safety systems.

Mercedes-Benz is also offering an optional Vegan Package, featuring interior materials independently certified by The Vegan Society.

With its local assembly, 489bhp dual-motor powertrain and claimed 715km WLTP range, the GLC Electric will become one of Mercedes-Benz India's key electric models when it goes on sale in November.
