  • It is likely to be powered by the A18 series chip
  • Apple is also rumoured to give iPhone SE4 a 48 megapixel rear camera

The iPhone SE 4 is generating a buzz, but when exactly is it launching? While this question remains speculative, industry reports suggest that Apple is highly likely to release its next-generation budget iPhone in early 2025. The iPhone SE 4 is already grabbing attention as it is expected to be the most affordable iPhone compared to the flagship iPhone 16 series. However, beyond its price, Apple is also rumoured to introduce significant upgrades, including the A18 series chip, Apple Intelligence features, and more, making it a powerful and more capable successor to the 2-22 launched iPhone SE 3.

If rumours are to be believed, Apple is likely to launch the iPhone SE 4 in March 2025, aligning with its launch pattern for the SE lineup. Historically, SE devices have debuted in spring, with the iPhone SE 3 unveiled on March 18, 2022, and the iPhone SE 2 on April 24, 2020. Additionally, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman earlier reported that Apple plans to begin production of the iPhone SE 4 in December 2024 following the possible launch in early 2025.
And what about the upgrade? Well, Apple is anticipated to introduce big upgrades to the new gen iPhone SE.

Design and display

According to reports, a major redesign is on the cards for the iPhone SE 4. The device is expected to take design cues from the iPhone 14, departing from the thick bezels and physical home button of its predecessors. Instead, the iPhone SE 4 is rumoured to feature a 6.1-inch OLED display with slim bezels, a notch, and Face ID support, giving it a more modern look.

A18 series chip performance

The iPhone SE 4 is anticipated to be powered by Apple’s A18 series chip, the same processor line introduced with the iPhone 16 lineup. This chip is expected to deliver smooth performance for everyday tasks, gaming, and app usage. Moreover, with the rumoured inclusion of 8GB of RAM—double that of the SE 3—the SE 4 could support the latest and more demanding features like Apple Intelligence, Apple’s AI-powered suite of capabilities.

Camera improvements

The camera is another area where Apple is expected to bring significant upgrades. The iPhone SE 4 is rumoured to feature a 48-megapixel rear camera, a big improvement over the 12-megapixel sensor in the SE 3. According to reports, while the new SE may not have the multi-camera setup of higher-end iPhones, Apple’s computational photography software is likely to enhance image quality. Apple is also likely to add more camera-specific features like Smart HDR, Night Mode, and more. For selfies and video calls, the front camera is expected to sport a 12-megapixel sensor.

Battery and charging

Battery life is another area where we can see an upgrade. The iPhone SE 4 is rumoured to house a larger 3,279mAh battery compared to the SE 3’s 2,018mAh capacity. It is expected to support 20W fast charging and could introduce MagSafe compatibility. Additionally, the iPhone SE 4 is speculated to be Apple’s first device to feature an in-house 5G modem, reducing the company’s reliance on Qualcomm.

iPhone SE4 pricing in India

While the iPhone SE 4 is expected to include premium upgrades, Apple is likely to keep the pricing competitive. In the U.S., the starting price is rumored to be between $499 and $549, up from the SE 3’s $429. In India, the starting price could be around Rs 45,000, similar to the SE 3’s launch price of Rs 43,999. If Apple follows this pricing strategy, the iPhone SE 4 could become a game-changer in the mid-range segment, offering stiff competition to Android devices.
