- A new leak claims Apple's first touchscreen MacBook is "100 per cent confirmed”
- The upcoming device is widely expected to debut as the rumoured MacBook Ultra
- Previous reports suggest the laptop could feature Apple's first OLED display on a MacBook
Apple's first touchscreen MacBook could finally be on the way. The company has been linked to touchscreen Mac rumours for years, but a fresh leak suggests the long-awaited device is indeed in development. If the reports turn out to be accurate, it would mark a major shift for Apple, which has historically argued that touchscreens belong on iPads, not laptops.
The latest claim comes from well-known Chinese tipster Instant Digital, who recently stated that a touchscreen MacBook is "100 percent confirmed." While the post does not reveal specific details about the device, it adds weight to earlier reports suggesting Apple is preparing to bring touch functionality to its Mac lineup for the first time.
Touchscreen MacBook could arrive with a major redesign
Apple has never shipped a MacBook with a touchscreen display. Instead, the company has consistently maintained that users are better served by a combination of a keyboard, trackpad, and an iPad for touch-based tasks. However, industry reports over the past few years have hinted that Apple may be rethinking that strategy.
The upcoming touchscreen MacBook is widely expected to feature an OLED display, another first for the MacBook lineup. Previous leaks suggest the display could support contextual touch controls, allowing users to access additional options and shortcuts depending on where they tap on the screen.
There are also rumours that the laptop could feature a Dynamic Island-style cutout, similar to what Apple currently offers on iPhones. While details remain limited, the device is expected to arrive with a refreshed design that sets it apart from existing MacBook models.
MacBook Ultra branding and higher prices tipped
Although Instant Digital did not mention a product name, previous reports have pointed to a new MacBook Ultra model. The device is expected to sit above the MacBook Pro range as Apple's most premium laptop, much like the Apple Watch Ultra sits above the standard Apple Watch lineup.
The laptop is also tipped to feature Apple's next-generation M6 chip, potentially making it one of the most powerful Macs ever released. However, those upgrades may come at a cost. Some reports suggest Apple could increase pricing by as much as 20 percent compared to current MacBook Pro models.
Another clue supporting touchscreen MacBook rumours comes from software. Apple's latest macOS 27 Golden Gate update introduces touch-related interface elements, including pull-to-refresh gestures in apps such as Safari, Mail, and News. While these features currently work with Sidecar-connected iPads, some observers believe they could be laying the groundwork for future touchscreen Macs.
As always, Apple has not officially confirmed any of these plans. However, with multiple reports now pointing in the same direction, the company's first touchscreen MacBook appears closer than ever.
