  • Indian college students can get Google AI Plus free for a year
  • Gemini can turn class notes into study plans, quizzes and bite-sized lessons
  • Google is also adding interactive visuals

College students in India have one less thing to worry about this semester, at least if Google has its way. The company is offering eligible college students in India one year of Google AI Plus for free, giving them access to Gemini’s AI tools without paying the usual subscription fee.

Google AI Plus normally costs Rs 399 per month in India, which means the 12-month student offer is worth nearly Rs 4,800. The offer comes as Google adds more study-focused features to Gemini, including a dedicated student hub, study notebooks, interactive visualisations and deeper research tools.

What do students get with Google AI Plus?

The free Google AI Plus plan gives eligible students access to Gemini Omni, along with 2x higher usage limits and 400GB of cloud storage. Google is also bringing several AI-powered learning tools to Gemini and Google Search.

One of the more interesting additions is the new student hub inside Gemini. It brings several study tools together in one place, including study notebooks, flashcards and practice quizzes.

Study notebooks are designed to work with your own study material. You can upload lecture notes and other class materials, and Gemini can create a study plan around them. It can also give you a diagnostic quiz to figure out where you're struggling before creating smaller lessons and quizzes to help you catch up.

Google is also adding interactive visualisations, which could be handy when a textbook explanation just isn't cutting it. Gemini can create things such as interactive 3D simulations, tables and visual models to explain difficult concepts.

For example, instead of simply reading about DNA, students can ask Gemini to show how DNA works in 3D and interact with the visualisation.

Gemini Live is also getting Deep Research, allowing students to start a research task, leave the conversation and return when Gemini has finished preparing a report. They can then discuss the report conversationally and ask follow-up questions.

How to claim the free Google AI Plus offer in India

The one-year free Google AI Plus offer is available to eligible college students in India. Students will need to complete Google's student eligibility verification and follow the sign-up process to activate the offer.

The promotion is free for the first year, but students should check the terms during sign-up, including the eligibility requirements, verification process and what happens after the 12-month promotional period ends.

Google is also offering students a separate Google AI Pro and YouTube Premium bundle at up to 70 per cent off.
