Range Rover Sport Electric opens bookings in India, offers 609km claimed range

Range Rover has opened bookings for the Range Rover Sport Electric in India, with a 550bhp powertrain, 609km claimed range, 850Nm torque and 800V fast-charging capability.

Range Rover has opened bookings for the Range Rover Sport Electric in India, marking the first time the performance SUV has been offered with an all-electric powertrain. The new EV will be available alongside the existing petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid versions of the Range Rover Sport.

The Range Rover Sport Electric uses a 118.5kWh battery pack and two 260kW electric motors, producing a combined 550bhp and 850Nm of torque. Range Rover says this is the highest torque output offered on a Range Rover Sport. The SUV can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 4.5 seconds when using Dynamic Launch Mode.

Range Rover Sport Electric: Range and charging

The electric SUV has a claimed WLTP range of up to 609km. Range Rover says its real-world range can reach up to 533km, although the actual range will vary depending on driving conditions and usage.

An 800V electrical architecture supports DC fast charging, with the battery capable of gaining up to 220km of range in 10 minutes. A 10-80 per cent charge takes around 22 minutes when using a compatible rapid charger.

The SUV also gets ThermAssist heat management technology, designed to regulate the battery and powertrain temperatures. A new optional home charger and charging functions integrated into the Range Rover app are also available.

Range Rover Sport Electric gets revised chassis setup

The Range Rover Sport Electric has been developed with a chassis setup specific to the electric powertrain. It gets Dynamic Air Suspension, Twin Valve Dampers, Adaptive Dynamics, Electronic Active Roll Control and All-Wheel Steering.

The electric SUV has a body structure that is 61 per cent stiffer than the internal-combustion Range Rover Sport, while its centre of gravity is 73mm lower. Range Rover says these changes, along with the instant torque delivery of the electric motors, help improve the SUV's response and handling.

The electric powertrain also uses virtual all-wheel drive and an Intelligent Traction Management system. Range Rover says the SUV can wade through up to 900mm of water and tackle inclines of up to 45 degrees.

Range Rover Sport Electric design and variants

The Range Rover Sport Electric retains the overall design of the existing Sport, with aerodynamic changes including a revised grille and alloy wheel designs. These changes are claimed to improve efficiency and add up to 16km of range at motorway speeds.

The SUV will be offered in Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE, Autobiography and First Edition specifications. The First Edition comes with a Zadar Grey exterior, Satin Wrap, a black contrast roof and 22-inch alloy wheels.

Range Rover Sport Electric Autobiography customers will also have access to the Range Rover Bespoke commissioning service, which offers additional exterior colours, interior finishes and personalised detailing.

The new electric SUV is being manufactured at JLR's Solihull plant in the UK on the same production lines as the petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid versions. It is based on the company's MLA-Flex architecture.

Range Rover has also equipped the SUV with a Battery Digital Twin, which allows the company to monitor the battery and carry out predictive maintenance through over-the-air software updates. The battery is covered by an eight-year or 1,60,000km warranty.
