Tata Motors is set to launch the Sierra EV on June 30, marking another significant milestone in the company's aggressive electric vehicle expansion strategy. The Sierra EV will become the seventh model in Tata's growing EV portfolio and is expected to blend nostalgic design cues with modern electric technology.

Positioned between the Curvv EV and the Harrier EV, the Sierra EV will target buyers seeking a spacious, premium electric SUV without stepping into the flagship segment.

Multiple battery options and AWD expected

The Sierra EV is likely to be offered with multiple battery pack choices, potentially sharing its underlying technology with the Harrier EV. Battery capacities are expected to range between 65kWh and 75kWh, depending on the variant.

Rear-wheel-drive versions are anticipated to form the backbone of the lineup, while higher-spec trims could feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. If introduced, the Sierra EV would become one of the few models in its class to offer AWD capability, providing enhanced performance and improved traction across varying road conditions.

Tata is also expected to equip the SUV with fast-charging capability and vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality. The larger battery variants could deliver a real-world driving range of over 500km on a single charge.

EV styling with a nostalgic touch

While the Sierra EV will share its overall silhouette with the upcoming ICE-powered Sierra, it will feature several EV-specific design elements. A closed-off front grille, revised bumpers and distinctive electric vehicle detailing are expected to differentiate it from its combustion-engined counterpart.

Other design highlights are likely to include full-width LED lighting signatures, flush-fitting door handles and aerodynamically optimised alloy wheels. Tata's familiar '.ev' branding is also expected to feature prominently throughout the exterior.

Despite the modern updates, the SUV will retain the upright stance and strong road presence that made the original Sierra a memorable design icon.

Tech-focused interior

Inside, the Sierra EV is expected to offer a premium and technology-rich cabin. Higher variants could feature a triple-screen setup comprising a digital instrument cluster, a large central infotainment display and a dedicated passenger-side screen.

The feature list is expected to include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and powered front seats, connected-car technology, ambient lighting, multiple drive modes and a premium sound system.

Safety and convenience features are likely to include Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, a head-up display and a comprehensive suite of driver assistance technologies.

Expected pricing and competition

Tata Motors is expected to price the Sierra EV between Rs 18 lakh and Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it squarely in the fast-growing midsize electric SUV segment. The company may also extend its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme to the Sierra EV, reducing the upfront purchase cost for customers.

Once launched, the Sierra EV will compete with models such as the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, MG Windsor and the upcoming Maruti e Vitara.

With its blend of heritage-inspired styling, long-range capability and premium technology, the Sierra EV is expected to play a key role in Tata Motors' efforts to strengthen its dominance in India's electric passenger vehicle market.
