OpenAI has started rolling out a major update to ChatGPT that makes it easier for users to automate recurring tasks, set reminders, and even monitor information on their behalf. The company has introduced a new Scheduled Tasks system that aims to turn ChatGPT into a more proactive assistant, capable of handling work in the background and notifying users when something important happens.
The feature is rolling out starting today for Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscribers. According to OpenAI, “With scheduled tasks, users can ask ChatGPT to send reminders, handle recurring work, or monitor things for them.” The company says the update also makes task management easier, faster, and more reliable, while offering improved notifications.
A key part of the update is a dedicated Scheduled page that will appear in ChatGPT’s sidebar. This section acts as a central hub where users can view all active tasks, check when they are scheduled to run, and manage them as needed. Users can pause, resume, edit, or delete tasks directly from this page.
The system also offers more flexibility when setting up tasks. Instead of selecting only a precise time, users can ask ChatGPT to complete something during a broader period such as the morning, afternoon, or evening. OpenAI says the entire task system has been improved, making scheduled actions quicker and more dependable than before.
The update could be useful for people who want regular reminders, recurring summaries, scheduled research, or routine work completed automatically without having to repeatedly ask ChatGPT to perform the same task.
ChatGPT can now monitor the web and connected apps
One of the more notable additions is support for monitoring tasks. These tasks allow ChatGPT to proactively check the web or connected applications for updates and changes. Rather than sending constant alerts, the chatbot will notify users only when it finds information that is worth reporting.
This means users could potentially set up ongoing checks for specific topics, updates, or changes and receive notifications when something relevant appears.
There are, however, a few limitations. OpenAI says scheduled tasks can run at a maximum frequency of once every hour. The company also notes that unattended tasks may automatically pause after a period of inactivity.
The new Scheduled Tasks system will replace Pulse, OpenAI’s existing proactive task feature. Pulse is being phased out and will be removed after 14 days. Users currently relying on Pulse will need to move to the new scheduling hub going forward.
The rollout comes as OpenAI continues to expand ChatGPT’s capabilities. The company has recently introduced improvements for image-related features, while Codex for Mac has gained additional options such as Dock icon customisation, saved limit resets, and Computer Use support in the European Union.
