  • iPhone Fold dummy units leak online
  • Leak hints at passport-like design, two cameras
  • iPhone Fold likely to launch later this year

Apple is the only major phonemaker to not have a foldable smartphone in its line-up so far. But that is expected to change this year with the long-rumoured foldable iPhone. While it is unclear if the tech giant will call the device the iPhone Fold or possibly the iPhone Ultra, a new leak seems to have finally given us our first real look at the purported device.

On X, tipster Sonny Dickson shared images of a dummy unit of the iPhone Fold. According to the tipster, Apple may not release the foldable iPhone in multiple colour options, with white potentially being the only one on offer.

But before we have a closer look at the design of this device, keep in mind that Apple has not given any official word on a foldable iPhone just yet.

What does the iPhone Fold look like?

The images of the dummy unit show a wide-style foldable iPhone. This is in line with previous reports which suggested that the iPhone Fold will come with a passport-like form factor, which could be similar to the original Google Pixel Fold.

The back of the leaked foldable iPhone dummy unit has a pill-shaped camera module that is placed horizontally with two camera cutouts – more on that later. While the camera module may remind you of the iPhone Air, it does not span the entire width of the back panel.

A separate leak by Sahil Karoul on X also shows the volume buttons placed on top of the iPhone Fold, instead of the conventional side-mounted buttons. Though the power button is on the side.

iPhone Fold displays

The leak also gives us a good look at the inner screen of the rumoured iPhone Fold. This panel is expected to be a 7.8-inch OLED unit, making it the largest display on an iPhone, and bringing it quite close to the iPad Mini. The images also point towards a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera on the top left of the display.

Apple is also believed to be working on reducing the crease on the inner display, something that has been a challenge for smartphone makers when it comes to foldables.

On the outside, however, the iPhone Fold will likely pack a 5.5-inch OLED panel. This will make it smaller than the 6.3-inch display on the iPhone 17, but that is largely due to the passport-like form factor. The leak also shows a selfie camera on the front, but likely without Face ID sensors. Instead, Apple is expected to use Touch ID built into the side button.

iPhone Fold, here is what we know

While the purported dummy units have given us a good clue on the actual design of the iPhone Fold, there is a lot more left to unpack. As per previous reports, the iPhone Fold likely has a thickness of 4.7mm when unfolded and 9.23mm when folded, making it one of the thinnest foldable smartphones in the market.

In terms of cameras, the foldable iPhone is rumoured to feature a 48-megapixel primary rear sensor and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide lens, without a dedicated telephoto camera. For the displays, the device may use two 18-megapixel selfie shooters.

Under the hood, the foldable iPhone is expected to use Apple’s A20 Pro chipset, which is rumoured to be built on a 2nm process. Reports have also pointed to 12GB of RAM and storage options going up to 1TB. A separate leak has suggested Apple may be working on vapour chamber cooling for the device – similar to the iPhone 17 Pro series. This could allow for better sustained performance even under heavy loads.

On the battery front, the iPhone Fold may come with a battery capacity between 5,400mAh and 5,800mAh, which would make it the largest battery fitted inside an iPhone so far.

Apple is also expected to lean on its iPad app ecosystem to offer a stronger software experience with the foldable iPhone. iOS 27, which is expected to be unveiled at WWDC 2026 later today, could come with new multitasking features designed for the iPhone Fold.

iPhone Fold launch and expected price

Apple is rumoured to launch the iPhone Fold alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max in September this year. If the reports are accurate, this would likely be the first iPhone launch under John Ternus at the helm. Ternus succeeds Tim Cook as Apple CEO on September 1.

Coming to pricing, there has been no official word on how much the iPhone Fold may cost. But reports put it somewhere between $2,000 (roughly Rs 1,91,000) to $2,400 (roughly Rs 2,29,000) in the US.
