Vietjet flight to Colombo makes emergency landing in Chennai after engine failure

Vietjet flight VJC1875 from Ho Chi Minh City to Colombo was diverted to Chennai after one engine failed. A full emergency was declared at the airport, but the Airbus A320 landed safely.

A Vietjet Airlines flight from Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City to Colombo was diverted to Chennai Airport on Tuesday night after one of its engines reportedly failed, airport authorities said.

The Airbus A320 aircraft, operating as flight VJC1875 with registration VN-A655, was en route from Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) to Colombo (CMB) when it was diverted to Chennai following the engine failure.

A full emergency was declared at Chennai Airport at 9:55 pm, following which all necessary measures were initiated under the Airport Emergency Plan.

The aircraft landed safely at 10:27 pm and subsequently taxied under its own power to the designated parking stand. The full emergency was withdrawn by Air Traffic Control at 10:35 pm.

Airport authorities said normal operations at Chennai Airport were continuing.
