Test started: April 2026/ 8,444km
Current ODO reading: 13,333km
Mileage this month: 1,278km
Efficiency this month: 300km/charge
While my focus for the Clavis EV has been on the efficiency, one tends to overlook the overall package and also on how cheap it is to run especially if one is charging at home or own office.
But let’s first settle the efficiency part of it once and for all. The inset picture illustrates the Carens has done about 215.4km and is showing 183km of range with state of charge at 51 per cent. Given that is all correct means a range of 398.4km. Let’s take that to be 400km for the sake of calculation given that the efficiency overall for the 49 per cent usage is 8.1km/kWh. And also for the sake of calculation, let’s take the usable part of the battery to be 50kWh ie 50 units of charging that for me comes to at Rs 7 per unit and Rs 350. That makes the running of the car under a rupee a kilometre. Anyone who drives a lot and is raking in the kilometres but can charge either at home or office for about 5 hours a day with a three-phase 11kW charging setup should promptly go any buy the car for efficiency itself. I should put a disclaimer though that these figures are all for city driving with one person on board but with air conditioning, seat cooling and Apple Car Play running. And add to it the flexibility and the practicality that does not come at the cost of comfort. There is though the matter of the air purifier that is mounted behind the driver’s seat. For a single person on board that can be quite irritating not knowing what the air purifier is up to but should not be a problem if it is a chauffeur driven car.
