Volkswagen has introduced the updated Taigun with a mid-life update, bringing subtle design tweaks, improved cabin tech and a new automatic gearbox option, aimed at strengthening its appeal in the competitive mid-size SUV segment.
by Saumya Shubham Jha · India TodayVolkswagen India has introduced the updated Taigun, giving its mid-size SUV a mid-cycle refresh that focuses on refreshed styling, enhanced in-cabin tech and a key mechanical upgrade. While the overall silhouette remains familiar, the facelift brings enough visual and feature updates to keep the Taigun competitive in a crowded segment.
Exterior design
The front end sees the most noticeable changes, drawing inspiration from Volkswagen’s global SUV design language. A slimmer grille is now flanked by redesigned LED headlamps, connected by a sleek light bar, while an illuminated VW logo adds a contemporary touch. The bumper has been reworked with cleaner lines and more pronounced detailing.
From the side, the profile stays largely unchanged, though new 17-inch alloy wheels with a gloss-black finish add freshness.
Around the back, the SUV gets updated LED tail-lamps with sequential turn indicators, a revised bumper and an illuminated badge, lending it a more upmarket appearance. GT variants continue to stand out with blacked-out styling elements and distinctive badging.
Interior design
Inside, the layout remains familiar but benefits from new trims and upholstery options with dual-tone themes. The biggest upgrades come in the form of a larger 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and an updated 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The latter now features improved graphics, smoother software and AI-backed functionality for better voice interaction and real-time data access.
Volkswagen has also added a panoramic sunroof, addressing a key demand in this segment. Other highlights include ventilated front seats with power adjustment, wireless smartphone connectivity, ambient lighting and a wireless charging pad. The air-conditioning system has also been revised for better cooling performance.
Powertrain options
Under the hood, the engine lineup remains unchanged. The 1.0-litre TSI motor produces 115bhp and 178Nm, while the more powerful 1.5-litre TSI delivers 150bhp and 250Nm.
The headline update is the introduction of a new 8-speed torque converter automatic for the 1.0 TSI engine, replacing the earlier 6-speed unit. A manual gearbox continues to be offered. The 1.5 TSI carries on with its 7-speed DSG automatic, but now benefits from the addition of rear disc brakes, a long-awaited improvement.
Volkswagen also claims a modest bump in efficiency for the 1.0 TSI, with fuel economy improved by nearly 6 percent.
Safety
Safety remains a strong suit, with the Taigun continuing to offer six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, traction control, hill-hold assist, ISOFIX mounts and more. The SUV retains its 5-star safety credentials, reinforcing its appeal for safety-conscious buyers.
Positioning and rivals
The Taigun facelift continues to compete in the highly contested midsize SUV space against rivals such as the Tata Sierra, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq and Renault Duster.
