In Short

  • Remnants of Cyclone Murasu cause rain in southern India on Nov 5
  • Central and eastern India see scattered showers and lightning
  • No significant weather changes expected in north-western India

Rainfall activity is expected to continue across parts of southern India on Thursday, November 5, as the remnants of Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu continue to influence weather conditions over the region.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its latest bulletin, has forecast showers across several southern states, while much of north-western India is likely to remain dry.

Delhi-NCR, meanwhile, is expected to see mainly clear skies, with some morning mist or shallow fog. Temperatures are likely to remain relatively mild, with no major change in weather conditions.

CYCLONE MURASU'S REMNANT TO KEEP SOUTH WET

The remnants of Cyclone Murasu, which crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast before weakening, have weakened further into a depression over east Telangana and adjoining coastal Andhra Pradesh.

The weather system is expected to move nearly northwards and weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area. However, its lingering influence is likely to keep rainfall activity going across parts of southern India.

According to the IMD, isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Rayalaseema and south interior Karnataka on November 5. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are also likely to receive showers.

Isolated heavy rainfall is possible over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, as well as south interior Karnataka. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also likely over parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and south interior Karnataka.

RAIN AND THUNDER TO ARRIVE

Parts of central and eastern India may also experience unsettled weather. Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh are likely to receive isolated to scattered rainfall, while Odisha may see thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds on November 5.

However, the IMD has not forecast any significant weather activity over north-western, western and north-eastern India during the week.

CLEAR SKIES IN DELHI-NCR

Delhi is expected to have mainly clear skies on November 5, although shallow fog or mist may develop at a few places during the morning.

The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to remain between 27-29°C and 15-17°C, respectively.

Owing to the lack of rain and the expected clear skies, the capital and its neighbours will continue to see alarming levels of pollution as Diwali comes closer.

Winds will blow from the north-west at speeds of up to 15 kmph during the morning, picking up to 20 kmph in the afternoon before slowing down again in the evening.

With no major weather system expected to affect the capital, Delhi-NCR is likely to experience largely stable weather on Thursday.
