In Short

  • Apple is likely to unveil the new iPhone 18 Pro models in two months
  • The Pro Max could get a slightly thicker body for battery gains
  • A smaller Dynamic Island may free up more usable screen space

Apple's next iPhone launch is likely just two months away, but leaks surrounding the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max have already started revealing what could be on the way. While much of the discussion this year has centred on Apple's rumoured foldable iPhone, fresh reports suggest that the traditional Pro models are also getting several notable upgrades. From a larger battery and a new 2nm chip to camera improvements and satellite connectivity enhancements, the iPhone 18 Pro lineup could be more than a routine annual update. If Apple follows its usual schedule, the new Pro models are expected to debut during the first or second week of September 2026. Reports also indicate that Apple could change its release strategy by bringing the premium models first, while the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e may arrive later in 2027. Here is a look at the leaked battery, camera, battery, display, design, India price and other details of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro series.

Bigger battery?

Among all the leaked features, battery improvements may end up being one of the biggest selling points of the iPhone 18 Pro Max. According to reports, Apple could slightly increase the thickness of the device to around 8.8mm, up from 8.75mm on the previous generation. While the change is minor, it may allow the company to fit a larger battery.

Leaks suggest the iPhone 18 Pro Max could feature a battery capacity between 5,100mAh and 5,200mAh. Combined with a more power-efficient processor and display technology, the flagship model could offer longer battery life than the current generation.

Apple is also expected to adopt a new LTPO+ display panel. Display sizes, however, are likely to remain unchanged, with the iPhone 18 Pro tipped to feature a 6.3-inch screen and the Pro Max expected to continue with a 6.9-inch panel.

Fresh design, Camera upgrades?

Although Apple is unlikely to introduce a dramatic redesign this year, there could still be a noticeable visual change on the front. Multiple leaks claim that the Dynamic Island will become smaller.

Earlier reports suggested Apple could move Face ID components under the display, but recent information indicates that the technology may not be ready yet. Instead, Apple is said to be shrinking the Dynamic Island itself. Tipster Ice Universe claims the cutout could be around 35 per cent narrower than the current version, allowing more usable screen space.

On the back, the company is expected to retain the familiar triple-camera setup and the large camera module seen on recent Pro models. The bigger story may be the hardware inside.

Apple is reportedly testing a variable aperture system for the main camera. If introduced, users would be able to manually adjust the amount of light entering the sensor, potentially offering greater control over photography and depth effects. The company is also said to be evaluating a new stacked image sensor that could improve dynamic range, responsiveness and overall image quality while reducing image noise.

The telephoto camera may receive attention as well. Reports suggest Apple could use a larger aperture for the zoom lens, which may help improve low-light photography and zoom performance.

Colour options are also expected to get an update. A new deep red finish with subtle purple tones has been rumoured, alongside light blue, silver and dark grey variants.

New faster chip incoming? New modem?

Powering the iPhone 18 Pro lineup is expected to be Apple's upcoming A20 Pro chipset. The processor is tipped to be manufactured using TSMC's advanced 2nm process technology, which could deliver a noticeable jump in both performance and efficiency.

Leaks suggest the chip may offer up to 15 per cent faster performance and around 30 per cent better power efficiency than the previous generation. Apple is also reportedly using a new packaging method that places memory closer to the processor, which could improve AI-related tasks while creating additional internal space.

Connectivity upgrades are also expected. The iPhone 18 Pro models could feature Apple's next-generation C2 modem with support for mmWave 5G. Reports further suggest Apple is exploring expanded satellite features that may eventually allow internet connectivity in areas without traditional network coverage and enable third-party apps to use satellite communication capabilities.

iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max: Possible good news on India price

For Indian buyers, pricing may be one of the most important aspects of the launch. Despite the new hardware, analysts believe Apple could avoid a major price increase this year. Well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has reportedly indicated that substantial price hikes are unlikely.

This is likely because Apple had already increased the prices of the iPhone 17 Pro series by Rs 5,000 in India. The iPhone 17 Pro launched at Rs 1,34,900, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max arrived at Rs 1,49,900. Based on current rumours, the iPhone 18 Pro series could remain in a similar price range, although a small increase cannot be ruled out.

That said, keeping prices steady may be challenging. The A20 Pro chip is expected to use TSMC's costly 2nm manufacturing process, while memory prices continue to rise globally. Smartphone brands such as Xiaomi, OnePlus and Nothing have already adjusted prices on some products because of increasing component costs.

Even so, analysts believe Apple may absorb part of the additional expense in markets like India. Another analyst, Jeff Pu, has reportedly suggested that Apple could adopt an aggressive pricing strategy, potentially keeping prices unchanged or limiting any increase despite the upgrades.

With the expected launch now drawing closer, more leaks are likely to emerge in the coming weeks. So, you can stay tuned to India Today Tech for all the updates around the upcoming iPhones.
