These three Maruti Suzuki cars are now available with CNG automatic options

Maruti Suzuki has expanded its CNG automatic lineup with AMT versions of the Swift, Dzire and Baleno, offering buyers more convenience without giving up CNG's claimed fuel-efficiency advantage.

Maruti Suzuki has introduced its CNG automatic portfolio with the introduction of AMT versions of the Swift, Dzire and Baleno. With these additions, buyers can now combine the lower running costs of CNG with the convenience of an automated manual transmission across three popular models.

The Swift CNG AMT is priced from Rs 7.92 lakh, while the Dzire CNG AMT starts at Rs 8.53 lakh. The Baleno CNG AMT, meanwhile, is available from Rs 8.32 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom). Maruti Suzuki is the second manufacturer in India to offer a CNG-AMT combination, after Tata Motors introduced the technology on select models.

Maruti Suzuki CNG AMT powertrain

All three cars use Maruti Suzuki's 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Z12E petrol engine, which develops 70bhp and 102Nm of torque when running on CNG. A five-speed AMT sends the power to the front wheels.

The Swift CNG AMT claims 35.34km/kg, while the Dzire CNG AMT is rated at 36.47km/kg. The Baleno CNG AMT has a claimed efficiency of 34.47km/kg. Interestingly, the automatic versions return higher claimed efficiency figures than their respective CNG-manual versions.

The Swift gets the CNG-AMT powertrain in VXi, VXi(O) and ZXi variants. The Dzire offers it in VXi and ZXi trims, while the Baleno gets the combination in Delta and Zeta variants.

CNG tank takes up boot space

Maruti Suzuki has retained its single-cylinder CNG setup on the Swift and Dzire. Both cars use a 55-litre (water-equivalent) tank mounted in the boot, with the spare wheel also retained.

The Baleno follows a similar approach, with its CNG tank and spare wheel positioned inside the luggage compartment. As a result, boot space is compromised on all three models. Unlike some Tata CNG models, Maruti Suzuki has not used a twin-cylinder arrangement on these cars.

The Baleno also misses out on the underbody CNG tank technology that Maruti Suzuki has introduced on the Victoris.

Maruti Suzuki CNG AMT ex-showroom prices

The Swift CNG AMT is priced at Rs 7.92 lakh for the VXi variant.

The Dzire CNG AMT costs Rs 8.53 lakh for VXi and Rs 9.53 lakh for ZXi.

The Baleno CNG AMT is priced at Rs 8.32 lakh for Delta and Rs 9.32 lakh for Zeta.

With the Swift, Dzire and Baleno now joining the CNG-AMT market, Maruti Suzuki has expanded the choice for buyers looking for an automatic car with the potentially lower running costs associated with CNG.
