- The update introduces a refreshed Liquid Glass design language
- Siri gets a major AI-powered upgrade
Finally, the curtain on iOS 27 was pulled back at last night’s Apple event, WWDC 2026. At the event, the tech giant introduced a significant update that refreshes the iPhone experience with a refined Liquid Glass design language, expanded Apple Intelligence features, and a host of improvements across the board. With the iOS 27 developer beta already out, a public beta is expected to arrive in July, and the stable version of iOS 27 is said to roll out alongside the brand’s next-generation iPhone 18 series likely in September.
The good news is that if you own an iPhone 11 or a newer model, your device will be getting iOS 27. That said, not every feature is coming to every phone. Apple has been upfront about the fact that some of the more advanced Apple Intelligence features will only work on newer iPhones, simply because older hardware cannot keep up. In fact, the most powerful on-device AI model is reserved exclusively for the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air. So while your older iPhone will still get the iOS 27 update, some of the flashier AI tools might not make the cut for you.

How to download iOS 27 developer beta now
If you want to get your hands on iOS 27 before everyone else, here is how you can get the developer beta up and running on your iPhone right now.
Start by opening the App Store and downloading the Apple Developer app. Once that is done, sign in with your Apple ID and enroll in the Apple Developer Program. Next, open your Settings, then go to General, then Software Update, and then tap on Beta Updates. You should see the iOS 27 Developer Beta listed there, simply select it and kick off the installation.
If the update does not show up, no worries. Just head over to Settings, go to Privacy and Security, and make sure Developer Mode is switched on. That should do the trick.
One thing before you dive in – make sure you back up your data. Developer betas are essentially work-in-progress builds meant for testing, which means they can come with bugs that might mess with your apps, your performance, or even your stored data. A quick backup could save you a lot of headache down the line.
iOS 27 update top features explained
Among all the updates, Siri is one of the biggest talking points. The company has given its virtual assistant a significant upgrade, rebranding it as Siri AI. The revamped AI assistant comes with the announcement of a dedicated Siri App. It is built to hold more natural conversations, stay on top of context better than before, and even understand what is currently displayed on your screen and camera. Siri interactions now show up through the Dynamic Island, and if you have ever wanted a more personalised touch, you can now customise the voice characteristics to your liking.
On the design front, Apple has added a handy transparency control to its Liquid Glass design language. This means you can now adjust the opacity of interface elements yourself, giving you a bit more say over how your screen looks and feels.
Beyond Siri and design, Apple Intelligence is also spreading its wings further across apps. Safari is getting smarter with AI-powered tab organisation and a new Notify Me feature that keeps you in the loop without the clutter. The Passwords app is stepping up too, with the ability to automatically update credentials for supported accounts. And if you are someone who loves shortcuts, you can now create them simply by typing out what you want in plain, natural language.
