Apple introduced its Liquid Glass design language last year as part of its major user interface redesign, centred on Liquid Glass. The aim was to bring a futuristic look to all its devices, from the MacBook to the iPhone. While the redesign drew mixed reactions on iOS 26 and iPadOS 26, people also reported some bugs in macOS 26 Tahoe. Now, Apple is expected to officially unveil macOS 27 and its next-generation operating systems at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8. This would, according to reports, feature an improved interface.

The company is reportedly preparing a series of interface refinements for macOS 27 aimed at addressing the shortcomings of the controversial Liquid Glass design.

According to Mark Gurman in its next MacBook software, Apple is planning what insiders call a “slight redesign” focused on fixing transparency, shadowing, and readability issues that have frustrated some Mac users since the debut of Tahoe.

Just to recap, Apple’s Liquid Glass visual language comes with translucent menus and glass-like interface elements across its platforms, allowing UI components such as menus and toolbars to partially reveal the content behind them — whether that be a desktop wallpaper or a website background — complemented by layered shadows for added depth.

While the interface has generally translated well to devices such as the iPhone and Apple Watch due to their OLED displays, the experience has been less polished on Macs, most of which still rely on LCD panels. As a result, transparency effects and shadow rendering can appear less refined, with some users reportedly criticising Finder sidebars, Control Centre, and list-heavy apps where the new textures sometimes affect readability and visual clarity.

It is worth noting that the expected changes in the macOS 27 are aimed at refining — rather than replacing — Apple’s Liquid Glass design language.

What more Mac users can expect from macOS 27

The update, likely to be revealed at WWDC in June, is also expected to include broader software optimisations, including bug fixes, performance enhancements, and battery-life improvements. For Mac users, the update is likely to be less about dramatic new features and more about making the operating system feel faster, cleaner, and easier for day-to-day use.

Beyond interface refinements, Apple is reportedly preparing new artificial intelligence features across macOS 27 and iOS 27. The centrepiece is expected to be a revamped Siri experience featuring chatbot-style interactions, deeper system integration, and tighter connections between Siri and Spotlight Search.

Apple is also said to be testing new Safari capabilities, including a feature that can automatically organise groups of tabs.
