Hyundai reveals first look at India-bound Bayon SUV

Hyundai Motor India has released the first design sketches of its upcoming Bayon SUV, offering a glimpse of its exterior and interior ahead of its India launch around the festive season.

Hyundai Motor India has released the first official design sketches of the upcoming Bayon, offering the first detailed look at the SUV’s exterior styling and cabin ahead of its India launch.

Positioned between the Venue and Creta in Hyundai’s India portfolio, the Bayon is being developed as a global product and is expected to arrive around the festive season. Hyundai says the new SUV has been designed around urban mobility, combining a stronger SUV stance with technology-focused interiors.

Hyundai Bayon gets distinctive front-end design

The exterior sketch shows a wide, upright front fascia with a prominent lighting signature that Hyundai calls H-Edge lighting. The setup features a slim horizontal element spanning the front, complemented by vertical lighting elements at the edges.

The SUV also gets a heavily sculpted bonnet, pronounced front fenders and muscular lower-body elements. These details give the Bayon a more substantial appearance and reinforce its SUV positioning.

The design is based on Hyundai’s evolving Art of Steel philosophy, which uses sharply defined surfaces, architectural forms and prominent character lines to create a sense of strength and movement.

The design cues also appear consistent with features seen on camouflaged Bayon test vehicles spotted in India. Spy shots have shown an upright stance, relatively flat roofline, pronounced wheel arches and roof rails.

First look at Hyundai Bayon interior

Hyundai has also previewed the Bayon’s cabin through a design sketch. The image shows a technology-focused dashboard with a large display area, a horizontal dashboard layout and a centre console that rises towards the dashboard.

The company says the cabin has been designed around connectivity, intuitive controls and technology, with the aim of creating a premium and contemporary environment.

Earlier test vehicles have also revealed dual integrated screens and Hyundai’s latest steering wheel design featuring the brand’s four-dot motif.

Hyundai Bayon designed for urban buyers

Hyundai says the Bayon has been conceived for customers who primarily navigate urban environments but still want the visual presence and character associated with an SUV.

The company has focused on pronounced body surfaces, defined character lines and a robust stance, while the cabin is designed around connected technology and intuitive interactions.

“Our goal was to create an Intelligent Utility Vehicle, where intelligent technology and thoughtful design come together for modern urban lifestyles. A high-tech interior within a tough exterior,” said Simon Loasby, Senior Vice President and Head of Hyundai Design Center, Hyundai Motor Company.

Hyundai Bayon: what we know so far

Hyundai has confirmed the Bayon name and has now revealed its design, but specifications, powertrain details and prices are yet to be announced.

The India-spec SUV is expected to sit between the Venue and Creta and could use Hyundai’s 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, currently offered in the Creta. A factory-fitted CNG version is also expected, although Hyundai has not officially confirmed either powertrain.

If introduced, the CNG variant would give Hyundai a mid-size SUV option with a factory-fitted CNG system, expanding the technology beyond its existing smaller SUV offerings.
