Over the past few months, we’ve been living with the Royal Enfield Classic 650 through the peak of the North Indian summer. Despite temperatures regularly touching 45 degrees Celsius, the engine has remained a delight. It delivers a healthy spread of power and torque, making overtaking effortless in both city traffic and on the highway. While the engine does generate heat, it never becomes uncomfortable enough to roast your legs—a commendable trait given the conditions. In bumper-to-bumper traffic, the clutch does feel a little heavy, but it never reaches deal-breaker levels. The Classic 650’s build quality has also impressed us. The paint and chrome have held up exceptionally well, with a quick wipe being enough to restore their shine. Comfort is another strong point. The upright riding position makes long hours in the saddle easy, although the handlebar initially feels a bit unusual because of its bend near the grips. Thankfully, it’s something you quickly get used to. The single seat offers ample room for the rider, but luggage-carrying ability is limited. If you’re planning to tour, fitting side racks is highly recommended, as they make it easy to mount soft luggage and significantly improve practicality. One aspect that takes a little getting used to is the main stand. New riders may initially find it difficult because of the bike’s weight, but the technique is simple. Ensure both legs of the stand are firmly on the ground, step on the stand lever and give the bike a gentle pull backwards. Once you get the hang of it, putting the Classic 650 on its main stand becomes effortless.
