Samsung this year expanded its foldable smartphone lineup with the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 8. It's a book-style foldable that brings a slimmer design, a refined hinge and a host of AI-powered upgrades. While tech enthusiasts are still soaking in the experience of Samsung's newest Fold, all eyes are now on Apple. Rumours have it that this could finally be the year the Cupertino giant finally debuts its first-ever foldable iPhone. And it might look quite similar to what Samsung has introduced with the Galaxy Z Fold 8.

According to reports, Apple could name its first foldable iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra. Of course, the company hasn't confirmed anything yet, but rumours and leaks over the past few months have painted a fairly detailed picture of what the device could bring. If those reports prove accurate, it could go head-to-head with Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 in the premium foldable segment.

Here's how the rumoured iPhone Fold stacks up against Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 based on everything we know so far, based on leaks and speculations.

iPhone Fold vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8: Design

Samsung this year has refined its Fold formula with the new Galaxy Z Fold 8. Unlike the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which has a familiar design with taller and slimmer frame with a larger 8-inch inner display, the standard Fold 8 introduces a new form factor. It has a shorter, wider, almost passport-like design with a 4:3 landscape inner display. The phone features a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner display, a 5.5-inch cover screen and weighs just 201g. Samsung has also redesigned the hinge and made the display crease less noticeable than on previous generations.

Apple, meanwhile, is expected to take on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 with a similar book-style design. According to leaks, the iPhone Fold could feature a 7.8-inch internal OLED display with ultra-thin glass and a 5.5-inch cover screen.

But if Apple has been working on a foldable for years, why the delay? Reports suggest the company's biggest hurdle wasn't the design itself, but getting the display right. Apple is said to have held back its first foldable until it could minimise the display crease. If the leaks are anything to go by, that wait may finally pay off, with the iPhone Fold tipped to feature a nearly invisible crease while measuring just 4.5mm when unfolded and around 9mm when folded.

iPhone Fold vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8: Performance and software

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset paired with 12GB RAM and up to 512GB storage. It runs Android 17 with One UI 9, bringing AI-powered multitasking features designed specifically for foldable devices.

Apple's foldable is expected to debut with the A20 chip, although some reports mention an A20 Pro variant to make it sit with the premium Pro lineup. It is tipped to include 12GB RAM and storage options of 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. The device is also expected to feature Apple's custom C2 modem and run iOS 20 with an iPad-inspired multitasking interface built for the larger foldable display. Apple Intelligence is likely to play a central role in the overall experience.

iPhone Fold vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8: Camera

Samsung equips the Galaxy Z Fold 8 with a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 10-megapixel cover selfie camera and a 10-megapixel inner camera.

On contrary, the iPhone Fold is expected to feature a dual 48-megapixel rear camera setup comprising a primary and an ultra-wide sensor. Current leaks do not point to a dedicated telephoto lens. Reports also suggest an 18-megapixel front-facing camera and a side-mounted Touch ID sensor integrated into the power button instead of Face ID.

iPhone Fold vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8: Battery and charging

Samsung's latest foldable packs a 4,800mAh battery with support for 45W wired charging alongside wireless charging.

On Apple’s side, leaks suggest a dual-cell battery between 4,800mAh and 5,800mAh. The company is also expected to focus on power efficiency through the A20 chip and high-density battery technology.

iPhone Fold vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8: Expected price

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 starts at $1,899 globally. In India it is available at Rs 1,79,999

Apple's first foldable is expected to be even more expensive. Current estimates suggest a starting price between $1,999 and $2,400, with higher storage variants potentially crossing $2,500. In India, the expected price is tipped to fall between Rs 1.9 lakh and Rs 2 lakh.

Do note that all of these details are based on leaks and reports. Apple has not officially confirmed the iPhone Fold or any of its rumoured specifications.
