  • They are equipped with Gemini AI

Last year, Google and Samsung, two companies joined hands in partnership to develop a new line of smart glasses. Now, at Google I/O 2026, both tech giants have unveiled their new smart glasses. The glasses arrive in two distinct designs, built in collaboration with Korean luxury eyewear brand Gentle Monster and American classic Warby Parker.

The companies showcased two different styles of smart glasses, both powered by Google’s Gemini AI assistant and Android XR platform. The upcoming glasses are designed to work alongside smartphones and offer features such as navigation, real-time translation, hands-free assistance, and camera-based AI interactions.

The first batch of the smart glasses is expected to launch in select markets later this fall, although pricing and exact availability details are yet to be announced.

Two styles with different designs

The new smart glasses will arrive in two distinct designs. The Gentle Monster version adopts a more fashion-focused and premium look, while the Warby Parker variant offers a more traditional eyeglasses-style design.

Google and Samsung appear to be targeting both mainstream users and fashion-conscious buyers with the dual-design strategy. Unlike futuristic XR headsets, the glasses are designed to look closer to regular everyday eyewear.

Google has also clarified that these are “audio glasses” and not full display-based AR glasses. This means the current generation does not include screens built into the lenses.

Gemini AI powers the experience

Much like Meta Ray-Ban Smart Glasses, the upcoming Google and Samsung smart glasses rely heavily on AI-powered voice interactions.

Users can ask Gemini questions about their surroundings, search for restaurant reviews, navigate streets using turn-by-turn directions, or translate conversations in real time. The smart glasses can also translate written text and help users communicate while travelling in foreign countries.

The glasses include built-in speakers, microphones, and cameras. Users will be able to capture photos and videos, listen to music, receive notifications, and even get summaries of missed messages directly through the glasses.

Google also demonstrated hands-free tasks such as cooking assistance and contextual search powered by Gemini AI.

Smart glasses designed to work with smartphones

Samsung says the smart glasses are intended to function as companion devices rather than standalone replacements for smartphones. The glasses are expected to connect to phones through wireless technologies such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to handle processing and app-related tasks.

The Android XR platform will power the software experience, while Samsung is handling the hardware side of the product. Interestingly, Google also highlighted AI-based image editing capabilities through Nano Banana, which can reportedly edit or regenerate captured photos using AI prompts.
