The OnePlus Pad 2 will become the first Android tablets to receive the stable Android 15 update. OnePlus announced the rollout on its community forum, confirming that the update is now available for users in Europe, India, and other global markets. However, North American users, including those in the US, will have to wait until later this week to experience the new features.
The Android 15-based OxygenOS 15 update brings a host of enhancements tailored for the larger screen of the OnePlus Pad 2. Among the standout features is the introduction of “Live Alerts,” which mimic the functionality of Apple’s Dynamic Island. These alerts enhance multitasking by allowing users to view and switch between live activities with simple gestures.
Another notable feature is the addition of new Floating Window gestures, enabling users to manage apps more efficiently. For instance, dragging down on a notification can open an app in a floating window, while swiping gestures allow for quick resizing, hiding, or closing of these windows. The update also introduces a redesigned Quick Settings and notification drawer, offering a split-screen mode for easier access.
On the visual front, the update improves animations and icons across the system, making the interface smoother and more consistent. Updated Home screen icons now feature more natural proportions and refined colors. Additionally, system-level animation effects have been enhanced, ensuring a unified scrolling experience across apps.
Battery management gets a boost as well, with a new “Charging Limit” feature that caps charging at 80 per cent to extend battery life. There’s also a reminder to enable this feature if the device remains connected to a charger for too long.
Privacy features have also been improved. A new "Private Safe" categorizes images, videos, and documents for easier organization, while hidden apps now have a dedicated Home screen entry accessible through a privacy password.
This update cements the OnePlus Pad 2’s position as a leader in software updates among Android tablets. While other devices like Google’s Pixel Tablet and Xiaomi’s Pad 7 also run Android 15, OnePlus’s quick rollout highlights the company’s commitment to delivering timely updates.
With its mix of performance enhancements, visual improvements, and user-friendly features, the Android 15 update ensures the OnePlus Pad 2 remains competitive in the growing Android tablet market.
