A social media post by retired Lieutenant General Devendra Pratap Pandey has sparked criticism online after he commented on actor Aamir Khan's marriage to longtime partner Gauri Spratt.
The controversy began after former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan shared a congratulatory post for Aamir Khan following the wedding. Quoting the post on X, Lt Gen (Retd.) Pandey wrote, "Amir Bhai congratulations on the holy marriage. Many more to come."
Among those who publicly objected was retired Air Vice Marshal Manmohan Bahadur of the Indian Air Force, who criticised the remark on X. His response added to a wider discussion about whether the comment was appropriate.
"General, to put it mildly – it does NOT behove a three-star General of our Army to stoop to such a level," reads the tweet.

The remark quickly drew attention on social media, with several users questioning its tone. Many described the comment as unnecessary and insensitive, arguing that it appeared to reference the actor's previous marriages.
Several users argued that the post did not reflect the decorum expected of someone who had held a senior position in the armed forces. Others said public figures, particularly former senior officials, should exercise greater restraint while commenting on personal matters.
At the same time, some social media users defended the remark, describing it as a joke and saying it was being interpreted too seriously.
The exchange has since prompted a broader debate online about the limits of humour in public discourse and the standards expected of former senior officials on social media.
The discussion comes after Aamir Khan married Gauri Spratt in an intimate ceremony at his Mumbai residence on Sunday. Attended by close family members and friends, the wedding drew congratulatory messages from fans and public personalities alike.
