The company has also highlighted its parking assistance technologies and highway driving assistance functions as part of the vehicle's safety package
Hyundai Bayon gets Level 2 Pro ADAS with 23 features
The Hyundai Bayon will feature Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 Pro ADAS, comprising 23 driver assistance functions supported by three radars and 12 parking sensors. The systems are designed to assist the driver in various conditions, including highway driving, city traffic, junctions and parking manoeuvres.
The ADAS suite includes Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) with detection and assistance functions for cars, pedestrians and cyclists. It also includes Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist for junction turning and direct oncoming traffic situations.
Other features include Blind-spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Blind-spot Collision Warning (BCW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Driver Attention Warning (DAW) and Safe Exit Warning (SEW).
For reversing and manoeuvring, the BAYON gets Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning (RCCW) and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCAA). A Surround View Monitor (SVM) provides a view of the area around the vehicle, while the Blind-spot View Monitor (BVM) displays views of areas that may not be visible through the conventional mirrors. Front and rear parking sensors are also part of the package.
Highway assistance features include Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Lane Following Assist (LFA) and Highway Driving Assist (HDA). The SUV will also offer High Beam Assist (HBA), Leading Vehicle Departure Alert (LVDA) and navigation-based Smart Cruise Control functions for curves and designated zones (NSCC-C and NSCC-Z).
Hyundai Bayon body structure uses 69% high-strength steel
Hyundai says the Bayon's body structure uses 69% advanced multi-grade high-strength steel, incorporating Hot Stamping (HS), Ultra High Strength Steel (UHSS), Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) and High Strength Steel (HSS).
The company says the reinforced structure has been developed to manage crash energy and improve occupant protection. Hot-stamped components have been used in critical areas, including the front apron, dashboard, rear floor and side reinforcements.
Hot-stamped rear-floor side members are intended to improve protection in rear impacts. The vehicle's dual-box construction, multiple load paths and ring-type structure are designed to distribute impact forces, improve structural integrity and reduce the risk of cabin intrusion during a collision.
The Global K Enhanced Platform forms the foundation of the Bayon's structural design and safety systems. Hyundai says the combination of platform architecture, reinforced chassis and different grades of high-strength steel is intended to provide a comprehensive approach to occupant protection.
More than 35 safety features to be standard
Hyundai has confirmed that the Bayon will offer more than 35 safety features as standard across all variants. The standard equipment includes six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC) and an Emergency Stop Signal (ESS).
The SUV will also get a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with high-pressure monitoring, a rollover sensor, three-point seatbelts with seatbelt reminders, ISOFIX child-seat mounts and rear parking sensors.
Other standard features include a burglar alarm, central locking and a headlamp escort function.
The broader safety package brings together passive safety equipment, electronic vehicle control systems and driver assistance technologies. Hyundai has also listed all-wheel disc brakes among the Bayon's safety features.
Hyundai Bayon engine, transmission options
The Hyundai Bayon will be powered by a four-cylinder, 1.5-litre MPi naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 115bhp and 143.8Nm of torque. The engine will be offered with a six-speed manual transmission (6MT) or a CVT.
