Renault Triber Turbo launched at Rs 7.84 lakh, gets 100bhp engine with a manual gerabox

Renault has launched the much-awaited Triber Turbo in India, bringing a 100bhp turbo-petrol engine to its seven-seat MPV, with prices starting at Rs 7.84 lakh (ex-showroom).

Renault has finally expanded the Triber range with a turbo-petrol powertrain, with prices for the new version ranging from Rs 7.84 lakh to Rs 8.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The new engine is offered across three variants.

A dual-tone exterior finish costs an additional Rs 21,000.

Triber gets a 100bhp turbo engine

Powering the new Triber is Renault’s 1.0-litre, three-cylinder HR10 turbo-petrol engine, also used in the Kiger and Duster. While peak power remains at 100bhp, Renault has tuned the engine to produce 180Nm of torque, giving the Triber more torque than the Kiger and Duster versions of the same engine.

The additional output comes from a revised engine management system. Renault claims the Triber Turbo can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 10.8 seconds.

At launch, the engine is paired exclusively with a 5-speed manual gearbox. A CVT automatic is expected to join the range soon.

No major styling changes

Renault has kept the visual differences between the turbo and naturally aspirated Triber to a minimum. The MPV gets a gloss-black grille, the latest Renault logo, LED headlamps and DRLs, while the front bumper features a large air intake with a silver surround.

The side profile features 15-inch dual-tone wheel covers, roof rails, gloss-black door handles and ORVMs.

At the rear, LED tail-lamps are linked by a black trim piece, with a 'TURBO' badge on the tailgate being the main visual identifier.

Seven-seat cabin retains existing features

The Triber Turbo continues with the same seven-seat layout and feature list as the standard model. Equipment includes an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, automatic climate control with a separate rear blower, cooled storage, cruise control and push-button start/stop.

With the third row folded, the MPV offers a claimed 625 litres of boot space.

Safety equipment includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, traction control, hill-start assist, TPMS and Isofix mounts. Renault has also recalibrated the ABS, ESC and traction-control systems for the turbocharged version.

The Triber is based on Renault Group’s Entry Platform (RGEP) and has previously received a four-star Global NCAP safety rating.
