by Saumya Shubham Jha · India TodaySkoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited has commenced production of the updated Volkswagen Taigun at its Pune facility, marking the next phase in the brand’s India-focused SUV strategy.
The refreshed Taigun brings a sharper design language with new styling elements aimed at enhancing its road presence, while also incorporating customer feedback to improve overall usability. The updated model is expected to offer a more premium in-cabin experience, with added features that prioritise convenience and practicality for everyday use.
According to Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of SAVWIPL, the start of production reflects the maturity of the Group’s manufacturing ecosystem in India, which is now capable of delivering globally benchmarked products with efficiency and scale.
Echoing this, Nitin Kohli noted that the Taigun has been instrumental in strengthening Volkswagen India’s SUV portfolio since its debut, and the updated version is expected to play a central role in driving future growth.
Since its launch in 2021, the Taigun has established itself as a strong contender in the compact SUV segment, with over 1,43,000 units produced in India. Around 30 percent of this output has been exported to international markets, underlining India’s growing importance as a global manufacturing hub for the Volkswagen Group.
The updated Volkswagen Taigun is set to be launched on April 9, 2026, bringing with it a comprehensive refresh in both design and features.
On the outside, the facelift introduces sleeker LED headlamps linked by a light bar, complemented by an illuminated Volkswagen logo for a more contemporary look. Additional styling tweaks are expected in the form of a redesigned grille and more aggressive bumpers. At the rear, the connected LED tail-lamps could feature an updated lighting signature, while a larger silver skid plate and reduced chrome detailing may give the SUV a tougher, more rugged appearance. The overall silhouette is likely to remain unchanged, apart from a fresh set of alloy wheel designs.
Inside the cabin, the Taigun facelift is expected to see a notable upgrade in technology and comfort. A larger touchscreen infotainment system and a fully digital instrument cluster, likely around 10.25 inches are set to be key highlights. The interior may also benefit from new upholstery options and updated trim elements to elevate the overall ambience.
In terms of features, additions such as powered and ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and enhanced air-conditioning with a variable-geometry compressor are anticipated. There is also some talk of rear-seat massage functionality being introduced, although this has not been confirmed yet.
Under the hood, the updated Taigun is expected to continue with its current turbo-petrol engine options. These include a 1.0-litre TSI engine producing around 115bhp and 178Nm, and a 1.5-litre TSI unit delivering approximately 150bhp and 250Nm. One key update, however, could be in the transmission setup, with the 1.0-litre variant likely to switch to a new 8-speed torque-converter automatic. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre engine is expected to retain its 7-speed DSG gearbox.
