by Saumya Shubham Jha · India TodayMaruti Suzuki's popular compact sedan, the Dzire, has crossed the 35 lakh cumulative production milestone in India, nearly 19 years after its introduction in 2008. The model has joined the Alto, Swift and WagonR as the fourth Maruti Suzuki car to achieve the feat.
The Dzire achieved the milestone in approximately 18 years and nine months. It is currently manufactured at Maruti Suzuki's Manesar facility and remains one of the company's most successful models in both domestic and international markets.
The Dzire crossed the 10 lakh production mark in April 2015, followed by 20 lakh units in June 2019 and 30 lakh units in December 2024. Interestingly, while the first 10 lakh units took seven years and three months to manufacture, the latest 10 lakh units were produced in just four years and four months, indicating sustained demand for the sedan.
Maruti Suzuki Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said the milestone reflected the trust of customers across four generations of the Dzire. He added that the sedan had remained relevant for nearly two decades by evolving with changing customer preferences while retaining its core strengths of style, comfort and practicality.
The Dzire is currently India's highest-selling passenger vehicle, according to the company. It has also become the first sedan to secure a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating. On the export front, the model featured among Maruti Suzuki's top five export models in the last financial year.
The latest, fourth-generation Dzire was launched in November 2024. It features an updated exterior design, premium dual-tone interiors and a range of advanced features. More recently, Maruti Suzuki introduced an automatic S-CNG variant, which the company claims is India's most fuel-efficient sedan, with a claimed mileage of 36.47km/kg.
Maruti Suzuki said the Dzire's consistent performance has contributed to its leadership in India's sedan segment for 19 consecutive years.
