India monsoon forecast: Heavy rain to lash North, East and South on Thursday

From Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh to Odisha, Maharashtra and Kerala, several regions could see another day of intense monsoon activity. Here's what the latest forecast says.

The monsoon will remain active across large parts of India on Thursday, August 6, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting widespread rain and isolated heavy to very heavy spells across the north, east, central and southern parts of the country.

The forecast, issued by the IMD on Wednesday, August 5, said that several regions are likely to remain under the influence of active monsoon systems, keeping rain activity high.

NORTH INDIA TO SEE ANOTHER WET DAY

Rain will remain widespread across Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Uttarakhand, while East and West Uttar Pradesh are also expected to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall.

The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rain over Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi on August 6.

Uttarakhand is expected to see intense rainfall, with the possibility of isolated very heavy spells during August 5–6.

Further east, Bihar will continue to see widespread rainfall, while Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim could receive isolated heavy rain on Thursday, August 6.

Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha could also see heavy spells, with very heavy rainfall possible over Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha on August 6.

CENTRAL AND WESTERN INDIA TO SEE ACTIVE MONSOON

The intense monsoon weather will extend into central India, too.

West Madhya Pradesh is likely to receive isolated heavy rain on August 6, while East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are expected to see fairly widespread to widespread rain.

In the western belt, Konkan and Goa could receive very heavy rainfall at isolated places while parts of Maharashtra is also likely to see very heavy rain.

Rain will remain fairly widespread over Konkan and Goa through the coming days.

SOUTH INDIA TO ALSO GET DRENCHED

Kerala, coastal and interior parts of Karnataka are likely to continue receiving fairly widespread to widespread rain.

The IMD has also forecast isolated heavy rain over Kerala, coastal regions of Karnataka on August 6, with very heavy rain possible over Kerala.

Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also likely over parts of the southern peninsula.

The broad weather pattern is being sustained by the monsoon trough and several cyclonic circulations across northern and central India, including systems over Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam and parts of southern Karnataka.

These systems are helping maintain moisture and rainfall across large parts of the country.

For August 6, therefore, the monsoon shows little sign of taking a break, with north, east, central, west and southern India all remaining on the monsoon's hit list.
