  • Google is working on a new AI project named Jarvis
  • The Jarvis is expected to perform tasks on your behalf
  • It might launch in December, alongside Gemini 2.0

Google is among the leading brands in the world of AI. With Google Pixel 9 series, it brought in several AI features, but now it is planning something beyond that. Google currently has an AI assistant called Gemini, but it looks like another AI will come in soon. How do we know? Recently, Google released a glimpse of its secret project -- Jarvis, named after Tony Stark's AI assistant in Marvel's Iron Man, which can do much more than just jotting down reminders. According to The Informaton, Google accidentally leaked the preview of its Jarvis AI on the store page.

The leaked store page described Jarvis prototype as, "a helpful companion that surfs the web for you." This means that the upcoming Google AI will do several tasks on its own for the user. For instance, Jarvis will be able to pull off common tasks like booking tickets, buying groceries and researching topics easily.

It also means that Google's latest AI can independently operate a computer, handling straightforward tasks without human intervention. Although an early version briefly appeared on Google’s extension store, it wasn’t fully functional; a reporter’s attempt to test Jarvis was blocked by access restrictions, preventing any task execution.

Google took the Jarvis store listing by mid-afternoon, ahead of an official launch expected in December. This AI will face competition from similar systems like Anthropic’s Claude, which entered public beta last month. Unlike basic tools, Claude has capabilities that go beyond browser functions, enabling it to type, click, and move the cursor on a computer.

What is Google's Jarvis project?

Project Jarvis is set to be a consumer-friendly AI tool within Google Chrome, designed to automate routine web tasks. Google plans to unveil Jarvis in December alongside the latest version of its Gemini AI model, dubbed Gemini 2.0. Following this preview, the tool may be tested by early users and could become a highlight in Google's campaign to demonstrate the capabilities of its new Gemini model.

With Jarvis, users can expect to delegate typical online tasks to the AI. For instance, by simply instructing it, “I have $500, find me a holiday for these dates, book it and let me know the details,” Jarvis will handle everything from browsing to booking, then relay the information back to the user.

The AI works by directly interacting with the Chrome browser, using "AI Vision" to interpret on-screen elements and determine where to click and what to type based on captured screenshots. Unlike Anthropic’s Claude, which can control the entire computer, Jarvis currently only operates within Chrome. However, if the technology is later integrated into ChromeOS, a future version might expand to control the whole system, although no such plans have been confirmed in current reports.
