MediaTek has launched its new flagship smartphone chipsets -- the Dimensity 9600 Pro and the Dimensity 9600M -- in India. The new chipset is built on a 2nm process and promises to bring faster performance, better power efficiency, smoother gaming, improved imaging and smarter on-device AI. The company says the first high-end smartphones powered by both chipsets are expected to launch this quarter, with the Oppo Find X10 Pro Max set to be the first phone in India to feature the Dimensity 9600 Pro chip.
MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro puts AI at the centre
Like its rival Qualcomm, MediaTek is also putting a big focus on AI with its latest flagship chip. The Dimensity 9600 Pro comes with a dual-NPU architecture and the company's Dimensity Agentic AI Engine, which are designed to bring more AI processing directly to smartphones.
The company says the chip can support AI models with up to 30 billion parameters. Its second-generation Super-Efficient NPU also reduces always-on AI power consumption by 40 per cent, while the NPU 1090 offers 51 per cent higher LLM prefill performance and 55 per cent higher token generation per watt.
Built for gaming, cameras and everyday performance
The Dimensity 9600 Pro uses a 2+3+3 All Big Core CPU setup, with two C2-Ultra cores clocked at up to 4.55GHz. MediaTek claims the chip delivers up to 17 per cent higher single-core performance and 15 per cent higher multi-core performance compared with the previous generation. It also claims a 61 per cent reduction in multi-core power consumption.
For gamers, the chipset features the G2-Ultra NX GPU and promises up to 27 per cent higher peak performance, 24 per cent lower power consumption and 18 per cent faster ray tracing. MediaTek says supported smartphones can deliver gaming at up to 185fps.
The camera side gets an upgrade too. The chip comes with the Imagiq 1290 ISP and supports features including 4K video recording at 240fps, 4K60 AI True Color Tone, 4K120 cinematic log and 17EV imaging.
OPPO has confirmed that its upcoming Find X10 series will use MediaTek's new flagship chipset. The Find X10 Pro Max will be the first smartphone in India to feature the Dimensity 9600 Pro. The phone is expected to launch soon in the country.
