  • Six additional trains will operate on Mondays across multiple Metro corridors
  • DMRC may expand extra services to other days based on demand
  • Key stations will get more security, scanners and ticket counters

In a major step aimed at promoting public transport and reducing fuel consumption in the national capital, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced additional Metro train services starting May 18. The move comes as authorities push commuters to shift away from private vehicles and rely more on Delhi’s extensive Metro network for daily travel.

According to DMRC, 24 extra train trips will be added every Monday with the deployment of six additional trains across different Metro corridors. Officials also said that more train services may be introduced on other days depending on passenger demand in the coming weeks.

The Delhi Metro has also decided to strengthen arrangements at stations to manage the expected rise in footfall. Additional security personnel, ticket counters, baggage scanners, and frisking facilities will be deployed at key stations to ensure smooth passenger movement and avoid long queues during peak hours.

DMRC said the Metro network already provides seamless connectivity across Delhi-NCR and links important transport hubs including railway stations, ISBTs, airport terminals, Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), Noida Metro Rail Corporation services, and Rapid Metro Gurgaon.

Officials highlighted that increasing Metro usage can significantly reduce traffic congestion, lower fuel consumption, and help cut pollution levels in the city. With rising concerns over fuel conservation and urban traffic, the Metro remains one of the most efficient and affordable public transport options for lakhs of daily commuters.

The latest decision is expected to benefit office-goers, students, and regular passengers who rely heavily on Metro services, especially on Mondays when ridership is usually higher after the weekend.

DMRC has advised commuters to use smart cards or digital payment methods for faster entry and smoother travel experience as passenger numbers are expected to increase following the expansion of services.
