by Saumya Shubham Jha · India TodayAther Energy has announced that its family-focused electric scooter, the Ather Rizta, has crossed the 3 lakh unit sales milestone within just two years of its launch, emerging as the company’s biggest growth driver and significantly strengthening its presence beyond Southern India.
Launched in April 2024 as Ather’s first dedicated family scooter, the Rizta achieved the 1 lakh sales milestone within 11 months and added the next 2 lakh units in another 11 months, highlighting the rising demand for practical electric family scooters in the country. The scooter crossed the 2 lakh unit mark in December 2025 and added another 1 lakh units in only five months.
The Rizta has played a major role in accelerating Ather’s expansion into newer regions and customer segments. According to the company, the scooter accounted for 76 per cent of Ather’s total sales volumes in FY26. Ather also stated that it gained a leadership position in Southern India during the financial year, while strengthening its footprint in “middle India” markets such as Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
Commenting on the achievement, Ravneet Singh Phokela said the Rizta was sharply positioned as a family scooter from the outset and has resonated strongly with family buyers across the country. He added that the model has helped Ather expand its market share fourfold in key central and western states since launch.
As per Vahan and Telangana Vehicle Online Sales data shared by the company, Ather’s market share in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha increased from 4.1 per cent in Q1 FY25 to 17.3 per cent in Q4 FY26. Northern states including Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh also recorded over threefold growth in market share during the same period, with the Rizta accounting for the majority of sales volumes in these markets.
The scooter has also widened Ather’s customer base by attracting more family-oriented buyers into the EV segment. The company revealed that nearly 70 per cent of Rizta buyers are families with children. Positioned as a practical everyday scooter, the Rizta features a large seat, spacious floorboard and 56 litres of total storage capacity, including a 34-litre under-seat compartment and a 22-litre front storage unit.
In terms of technology and safety, the Rizta comes equipped with connected features such as SkidControl, theft alerts and tow alerts. Ather has also continued to improve the ownership experience through regular software updates. In September 2025, the company rolled out a touchscreen interface for existing Rizta Z customers via an over-the-air update based on its Atherstack 7 platform.
