Google may be coming to eat Anthropic’s lunch. The company has announced a bunch of new vibe-coding tools and updates for Google AI Studio that would allow anyone and everyone to make apps from scratch. Google, in fact, is going a step further to claim some integrations that it is putting inside AI Studio would let you design “production-ready” applications, though the impression is that the final review or approval would be in the hands of humans to ensure, the output is free of bugs and other issues.

Building an app has traditionally been limited to software developers who have knowledge of coding and understand how computer programs work. However, the advent of generative AI has introduced a new concept called vibe coding, which allows people to build AI applications using simple text prompts. Until now, most vibe-coded applications were largely prototypes. These apps often suffered from poor structure, architectural and logic issues, and occasional misinterpretation by AI systems. That, however, is changing after Anthropic’s entry into the space. Claude is so good at coding, it is pulling customers, especially enterprise, away from Google and OpenAI.

Google’s latest announcement might win some of those customers back. One of the headlining updates is that Google is putting the Antigravity AI agent inside Google AI Studio, allowing people to build production-ready apps using AI and simple text prompts. This means applications generated with this new tool can be used by real users on the internet.

Building functional apps using AI prompts

The Google Antigravity tool within Google AI Studio can perform several tasks automatically. These include creating multiplayer experiences, adding databases and authentication systems, setting up storage, connecting to real-world services and installing required development tools. The AI agent can also understand the entire project structure, including the full codebase and previous chat instructions, allowing it to make more accurate updates to the application, Google says.

The tool also makes it easier to build multiplayer and collaborative applications where multiple users can interact with the same platform and see updates instantly. Modern applications require various coding libraries and development tools. The AI can now automatically install these tools when required.

The update also enables applications to connect with external services such as payment systems, maps, databases and weather platforms through APIs. To protect sensitive data, the platform stores information such as API keys in a secure Secrets Manager, ensuring they are not publicly exposed.

The system also allows developers to save their progress automatically. If users close their browser and return later, the platform remembers their work and allows them to continue building the application from where they left off.

Developers can choose popular development frameworks such as React, Angular and Next.js while creating applications. These frameworks help developers build modern websites and web applications.

According to Google, the platform will soon integrate with Google Workspace, which means apps could connect with services such as Google Drive and Google Sheets. The company also plans to allow developers to move projects from Google AI Studio to Google Antigravity with a single click.
