Electric two-wheeler market grows 75%, EV penetration reaches 10.6%: FADA
Electric two-wheeler adoption continued to accelerate in India, with June 2026 retail sales surging nearly 75 per cent year-on-year.
by Saumya Shubham Jha · India TodayIndia's electric two-wheeler (E2W) market witnessed robust growth in June 2026, with retail sales jumping 74.98 per cent year-on-year to 1,93,735 units from 1,10,719 units in the same month last year, according to the latest retail data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).
On a month-on-month basis, retail registrations rose 13.47 per cent from 1,70,733 units sold in May 2026, highlighting sustained momentum in EV adoption.
The biggest beneficiary of the demand surge was TVS Motor Company, which retained its leadership in the segment by retailing 47,064 electric two-wheelers during the month. The company recorded a 10.85 per cent month-on-month growth and a 76.05 per cent increase over June 2025.
Bajaj Auto followed closely with 43,306 units, registering a 10.47 per cent sequential rise and an 80.54 per cent year-on-year growth. Ather Energy continued its strong run, retailing 31,230 units, up 10.59 per cent over May and 95 per cent compared to a year ago.
Hero MotoCorp posted one of the sharpest gains among established players. Its electric two-wheeler retail sales stood at 21,820 units, rising 14.44 per cent month-on-month and an impressive 175.51 per cent year-on-year.
In contrast, Ola Electric remained the only major manufacturer to post a year-on-year decline. The company retailed 16,150 units in June, up 6.66 per cent from May but down 21.97 per cent compared to June 2025, indicating continued pressure on its market position.
Among the emerging players, Greaves Electric Mobility reported 10,930 retail sales, registering a 42.04 per cent month-on-month jump and a 153.60 per cent year-on-year increase. River Mobility more than tripled its volumes from a year ago to 4,399 units, while BGauss Auto nearly doubled its retail sales to 3,917 units.

The overall electric two-wheeler market also continued to expand its share in the domestic two-wheeler industry. EV penetration rose to 10.6 per cent in June 2026, up from 9.3 per cent in May 2026 and 7.0 per cent in June 2025, reflecting the growing acceptance of electric mobility among Indian consumers.
