In Short

  • The iPhone 18 Pro Max is said to get a larger battery and a narrower Dynamic Island
  • Apple is said to introduce the new 2nm-based A20 Pro chipset with improved efficiency
  • Analysts believe India pricing could remain close to the iPhone 17 Pro series

Apple's next-generation iPhones are still three months away from launch, but leaks surrounding the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max have already started offering a good picture of what the company could be planning. While Apple is also expected to introduce its first foldable iPhone this year, the spotlight continues to remain on the traditional Pro models, which are tipped to receive upgrades across performance, battery life, cameras and connectivity. If Apple follows its usual launch cycle, the iPhone 18 Pro series is likely to debut in the first or second week of September 2026. Reports also suggest that the company could change its release strategy this year by prioritising the premium models, while the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e may arrive later in 2027. As a result, most of the leaks currently emerging are centred around the Pro lineup.

The latest reports indicate that Apple is preparing meaningful improvements rather than a simple yearly refresh. From a slimmer Dynamic Island and a more powerful chipset to larger batteries and upgraded camera hardware, the iPhone 18 Pro series could bring several changes aimed at premium smartphone buyers. We will also take a look at the expected India price of the iPhone 18 Pro Max and its 18 Pro model as analysts have given some hint on that as well. Here are all the details based on the leaks.

Slimmer Dynamic Island, familiar design

Apple is reportedly not planning a major redesign for the iPhone 18 Pro series. The devices are expected to retain the overall look of the current Pro models, including the triple-camera setup on the rear and the large camera plateau design seen in recent generations.

The biggest visual change could arrive on the front. Multiple leaks claim Apple is working on reducing the size of the Dynamic Island. Earlier reports suggested that the company could move Face ID technology under the display, but newer information indicates that the technology may not be ready for mass production. Instead, Apple is expected to make the Dynamic Island noticeably smaller. According to tipster Ice Universe, the cutout could be around 35 percent narrower than the current version, giving users more usable screen space without completely removing the feature.

Display sizes are unlikely to change. The iPhone 18 Pro is tipped to feature a 6.3-inch display, while the Pro Max may continue with a 6.9-inch screen. Apple is also rumoured to be adopting a more efficient LTPO+ panel technology, which could help improve battery life.

The Pro Max model may become slightly thicker this year. Leaks suggest the device could measure around 8.8mm, compared to 8.75mm on the previous generation. While the difference sounds minor, it could allow Apple to accommodate a larger battery.

Battery improvements are expected to be one of the upgrades of the new lineup. Reports suggest the iPhone 18 Pro Max could feature a battery between 5,100mAh and 5,200mAh. Combined with a more efficient processor and display technology, the device could deliver longer battery life than its predecessor.

A20 Pro chip, camera upgrades, Apple's new modem

At the heart of the iPhone 18 Pro lineup is expected to be Apple's new A20 Pro chipset. The processor is tipped to be manufactured using TSMC's advanced 2-nanometre process, which could deliver better performance while reducing power consumption.

Leaks suggest users may see up to 15 percent faster performance and around 30 percent better efficiency compared to the previous generation. Apple is also said to be using a new packaging method that integrates memory more closely with the processor, potentially boosting on-device AI performance while freeing up internal space.

The camera department could also receive some of the most important upgrades in years. Apple is reportedly testing a variable aperture system for the main camera. If introduced, users would be able to manually control the amount of light entering the sensor, allowing greater flexibility for photography and depth effects.

Reports further claim that Apple may adopt a new stacked image sensor that offers improved dynamic range, better responsiveness and reduced image noise. The telephoto camera is also expected to receive improvements, with a larger aperture helping deliver better low-light shots and improved zoom performance.

Connectivity is another area where Apple may push forward. The iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to feature Apple's next-generation C2 modem, which could bring support for mmWave 5G while further reducing the company's dependence on Qualcomm technology.

Leaks also suggest Apple is exploring broader satellite capabilities. Future iPhones could potentially offer internet connectivity in areas without traditional network coverage and allow third-party applications to make use of satellite communication features.

Colour options could include a new deep red finish with subtle purple tones. Other colours rumoured for the lineup include light blue, silver and dark grey.

iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max India price: Will Apple raise prices again?

Pricing remains one of the biggest talking points surrounding the iPhone 18 Pro series. Despite the expected hardware upgrades and rising component costs, several reports suggest Apple may try to avoid a major price hike this year.

Well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has reportedly indicated that the company is unlikely to substantially increase the prices of the iPhone 18 Pro models. It is worth noting that Apple raised prices for the iPhone 17 Pro lineup by Rs 5,000 in India, so the company isn't expected to push the prices further with the launch of the new generation iPhone models. For reference, the iPhone 17 Pro launched in India at Rs 1,34,900, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max debuted at Rs 1,49,900. If Apple sticks to a similar strategy, the new models could arrive in roughly the same price range, though a small increase cannot be completely ruled out.

Maintaining current pricing, however, may not be easy. The A20 Pro chipset is expected to be built on TSMC's costly 2nm process, which reportedly carries significantly higher production expenses than previous-generation chips. Memory prices are also rising globally, putting additional pressure on smartphone manufacturers.

Several brands, including Xiaomi, OnePlus and Nothing, have already adjusted pricing on some devices due to increasing component costs. Even so, analysts believe Apple may absorb a portion of the added expense to protect demand in key markets such as India, where pricing remains an important factor for buyers.

Another analyst, Jeff Pu, has reportedly suggested that Apple could adopt an aggressive pricing strategy for the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. This could mean keeping prices unchanged or limiting increases to a minimum despite the hardware upgrades.

With the launch expected around September, more details are likely to surface in the coming weeks. If you are waiting for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max and 18 Pro models, you can stay tuned to India Today Tech for all the leaks and updates around the same.
