You don’t have to fly to New York to see the Statue of Liberty, just head to Jalandhar. A home in Punjab is going viral for bringing a slice of the US skyline to its rooftop.
A unique architectural addition by Gurjeet Singh Matharu has caught the internet’s attention after he recreated a miniature version of the Statue of Liberty on the fourth floor of his house in the Kishanpura area.
Matharu, who has been living in New York for the past 26 years, reportedly brought this idea to life as a way of holding on to a piece of the city he now calls home.
The structure, though smaller in scale, closely resembles the iconic monument, one of the most recognisable symbols of the United States, often associated with freedom and hope. Perched atop his residence, it has quickly become a talking point in the locality, drawing curious onlookers from nearby areas and even beyond.

What started as a personal project has now turned into a local attraction. Residents and visitors alike have been stopping by to catch a glimpse of what many are calling a “mini New York” in Punjab.
The internet, unsurprisingly, has had plenty to say. While many users praised the creativity and effort behind the installation, others found the concept intriguing for its symbolism. “This is such a unique way to stay connected to memories abroad,” one user wrote, while another commented, “Looks like a mini New York in Punjab, quite creative.”
Unique, indeed!
