New Delhi: Motorola has confirmed that it will launch a brand-new flagship foldable smartphone at CES 2026 in Las Vegas. The announcement was made by Sergio Buniac, President if Motorola Mobility, through a Linkedin post shared on December 31, 2025.

The teaser gives the first official hint of Motorola’s next premium device. The teaser image shows a curved design, a textured back panel and what appears to be squad- camera a setup. While the company has not revealed the name of the smartphone, the teaser clearly points to a major change in Motorola flagship.

First Book-Style Foldable from Motorola?

So far, Motorola’s foldable phones have been limited to the Razr series, which follows a flip or clamshell design. However, industry reports and recent leaks suggest that the upcoming device could be Motorola’s first-ever book-style foldable phone.

If true, this would put Motorola in direct competition with devices like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series, which has a strong presence in global and Indian markets.

In his post, Sergio Buniac said, “On January 6th, we’ll set a new bar for what a flagship device can be.” He also added that the launch will mark a new signature era for the brand at Lenovo Tech World 2026.

Smaller Cover Display Expected

Leaks also suggest that Motorola may take a different approach with the external display. Unlike Samsung Galaxy Z Fold or Google Pixel Fold, which come with large cover screens, Motorola’s book-style foldable could feature a smaller outer display. This may allow users to handle basic tasks without opening the phone, similar to the Razr lineup.

Unique Design to Stand Out

In terms of design, the upcoming foldable phone is expected to feature a wood-inspired or textured finish. This could help Motorola stand out in a market where most premium smartphones use glass or metal backs.

Growing Demand for Foldable Phones

Foldable smartphones are gaining popularity worldwide. According to Counterpoint Research, global foldable smartphone shipments are expected to grow by 38 per cent this year. Book-style foldables are leading this growth, showing increasing consumer interest in large-screen foldable devices.

With this launch, Motorola is set to make a strong entry into the premium foldable smartphone segment.
