Saudi Arabia’s air defence systems intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched towards the capital, Riyadh, by Yemen’s Houthi group, the Saudi-led coalition said on Sunday, October 25.
The announcement comes amid a sharp escalation in hostilities involving the Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition.
According to the coalition’s spokesperson, Major General Turki Al-Maliki, the missile was intercepted before reaching its intended destination.
However, officials did not immediately disclose the missile’s launch location or provide details about any damage or casualties linked to the incident.
The interception follows a series of reported missile and drone attacks across Saudi Arabia.

The coalition also said it had intercepted missiles directed towards Taif and Yanbu, along with a drone in the Eastern Province.
Meanwhile, the Houthis claimed to have targeted Saudi airports, oil facilities and military installations, including King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.
The latest developments come as fighting intensifies in Yemen, where the Saudi-led coalition has supported the internationally recognised government against the Houthis since 2015.
The Houthis have controlled the capital, Sanaa, and other parts of Yemen since 2014. The growing cross-border attacks have raised concerns about further regional instability and threats to critical infrastructure.
