Bhubaneswar: Another low-pressure area is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal by October 13, raising the possibility of changing weather conditions over the region, raising concerns that rain could dampen Dussehra celebrations across Odisha.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), an active atmospheric circulation originating over the Gulf of Thailand is expected to move towards the Bay of Bengal and gradually develop into a low-pressure system.
According to meteorological observations, an active cyclonic circulation is currently prevailing over the Gulf of Thailand and its adjoining areas. The system extends up to approximately 7.6 kilometres above sea level and is gradually moving west-northwestwards.
The circulation is expected to enter the Andaman Sea on October 11. Favourable marine and atmospheric conditions may then support its further intensification, with a well-marked low-pressure area likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal by October 13.

The potential impact of the low-pressure area will depend on its intensity, direction of movement and subsequent evolution. Weather experts are keeping a close watch on the system to determine whether it will strengthen further and which coastal areas, if any, could be affected.
Residents of coastal regions and those involved in fishing and other maritime activities are advised to follow official IMD weather bulletins for the latest updates and advisories.
Further details regarding the system’s likely track, intensity and possible impact are expected as the weather situation evolves.
