Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area has formed over the central Bay of Bengal under the influence of a cyclonic circulation, as per the India Meteorological Department.
Southern Odisha could experience the system’s impact if it develops and moves inland after crossing the Andhra Pradesh coast.
As per IMD, the system is likely to gradually intensify. On October 24, it may become more organised and develop into a depression over the central Bay of Bengal.
Favourable conditions over the sea could lead to further intensification, with the system potentially developing into a cyclonic storm by October 26. Forecast projections further suggest that it could intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by October 27–28 and move towards the coast.

The system is projected to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast around October 28, according to the forecasts cited in the report. After landfall, it may move inland and pass through areas bordering southern Odisha, potentially affecting parts of the region.
However, the system’s actual intensity, movement and landfall location remain subject to change as weather conditions evolve. The latest official forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) will be crucial in determining the likely track and potential impact.
Residents of southern Odisha and adjoining areas are advised to follow official weather bulletins and updates from the IMD as the situation develops.
