Youth attacks father and brother as dispute over mobile turns violent in Mayurbhanj

Mayurbhanj: In a shocking incident, a dispute over a mobile phone took a shocking turn in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Sunday after an elder brother allegedly attacked his father and younger brother with a sharp weapon, leaving both seriously injured.
According to sources, the incident occurred at Sirathali village under Khunta police limits. According to family members, Sadananda Barik’s younger son, Sushant Barik, had found a mobile phone lying on the roadside. The phone’s owner later traced it and collected it from the family on Saturday evening.
Hours later, the family’s elder son, Hemanta Barik, reportedly returned home and questioned why the mobile phone was handed back to its owner. The argument quickly escalated into violence.

Police said Hemanta allegedly picked up a sharp weapon and first attacked his father, Sadananda Barik, causing a severe injury to his leg. When Sushant tried to intervene, Hemanta allegedly struck him on the head, leaving him seriously injured.
The injured father and son were immediately rushed by the family members to Udala Medical, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Their condition is reported to be critical.
The incident has left residents of the village shocked, as what began with a found mobile phone ended in a brutal assault within the family. Police are expected to investigate the circumstances that led to the attack and take further action based on the complaint.
