Bhubaneswar struck with heavy rain and hailstorm, Trees uprooted, 4 cars damaged

Bhubaneswar: Intense Kalabaishakhi (Nor’wester) activity including heavy rain, Gusty winds with speed of 40 to 50 kmph accompanied by lighting along with sudden hail storm struck Bhubaneswar on Saturday.

Though the rain brought much-needed relief from the intense humidity and heat, the Kalbaisakhi storm has also caused widespread destruction in the city.

The sudden storm brought localized disruptions, heavy waterlogging in low-lying areas, and poor visibility, impacting traffic across the capital. More than 4 vehicles were damaged due to trees falling in Jayadev Bihar area.

Meanwhile, several parts of the state also struck by sudden hailstorm and heavy rain.

The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre had issued warnings indicating active thunderstorm and hailstorm conditions across coastal districts, driven by unstable weather patterns.

Earlier today, unbearable heat and humidity were experienced in the capital Bhubaneswar today. The temperature was 33 degrees by 8:30 am, while the humidity was 77%. The heat index in Bhubaneswar reached 47 degrees.

Sp, the Kalbaisakhi induced rain has brought much-needed relief for the capital city people.The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for 11 districts for Kalbaisakhi.
