New Delhi: A woman lost her life after an air ambulance carrying her for advanced medical treatment made an emergency landing in Bangladesh’s Dhaka due to a mid-air technical fault. She was taken to a hospital there but was declared dead by the doctors.

The woman is identified as Anjana Bhowmik and was a human resources manager with Airports Authority of India (AAI) at Agartala.

Anjana Bhowmik was suffering from breathing difficulties and was referred from a Hospital in Agartala to Kolkata for further treatment. She was being transported in an air ambulance as she was in a critical condition and was surviving with ventilatory support.

The air ambulance had seven people on board, including two pilots, the patient, a doctor, a paramedic and two attendants.

Following the emergency landing, Bangladeshi authorities arranged medical assistance and coordinated with the Indian High Commission to facilitate the necessary formalities, as the aircraft had been operating a domestic flight and lacked the required clearance for an international landing.

The circumstances surrounding Bhowmik’s death remain unclear, and it has not been established whether the aircraft’s technical fault or diversion contributed to the outcome.
