BHUBANESWAR – In a significant boost to the state’s tourism landscape, the Odisha government has announced a massive ₹600 crore makeover for the BDA City Centre, popularly known as Nicco Park. The ambitious project, unveiled by Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, aims to revitalize the aging facility into a premier govt-backed amusement park and a modern urban leisure destination.
A Modern Vision for Regional Attractions
The redevelopment is set to transform the 24-acre park into one of the most prominent regional attractions for families. Moving beyond traditional amusement rides, the new-look facility will integrate wellness, entertainment, and commerce. Key features of the project include:
- Entertainment & Adventure: State-of-the-art rides, multiple dedicated entertainment zones, and upgraded boating facilities on the adjacent lake.
- Wellness & Nature: A sprawling Ayurvedic and herbal park, extensive landscaping, and scenic cycling tracks to promote a healthy lifestyle.
- Family Amenities: A modern market complex, fine-dining restaurants, and a dedicated food court designed to cater to visitors of all age groups.
Phased Development for Minimal Disruption

The project will be executed in three distinct phases starting in early 2026. The phased approach is strategically designed to ensure that parts of the park remain accessible to the public, maintaining its status as a vital community space during the transition.
- Phase 1: Focuses on core infrastructure, site development, and initial beautification of the lake zone.
- Phase 2: Introduction of commercial hubs, including the market complex and major entertainment zones.
- Phase 3: Final touches on premium recreational amenities and activity-based zones.
Boosting Odisha’s Tourism Portfolio
This ₹600 crore investment is a cornerstone of the state’s “Viksit Odisha 2036” vision. By integrating the park’s redevelopment with the modernization of the nearby Storm Water Channel No. 10 and the Janpath Lake Zone, the government is creating a cohesive “green corridor.”
“This project will serve as a modern, eco-friendly, and vibrant tourism hub, elevating Bhubaneswar’s reputation as a premier destination for both domestic and international visitors,” stated the Minister.
Once completed, the revamped BDA City Centre is expected to set a new benchmark for public-private recreational infrastructure, solidifying Bhubaneswar’s position as a leading smart city with world-class amenities for its residents and tourists alike.
