Bhubaneswar: Low-pressure may develop in the Bay of Bengal on October 13 which could potentially lead to rain on the day of Durga Puja in Odisha. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), no special weather warning has been issued for the state today.
The IMD said the cyclonic circulation over the Malacca Strait is likely to shift to the Andaman Sea during the next 24 hours, which can give rise to a low-pressure area.
Dry weather prevails in most parts of western Odisha with light rainfall possible in isolated pockets in coastal districts. Light showers are expected in some districts, including Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada and Puri.
Weather models show that the system will intensify with likelihood of it becoming a depression around October 15, but its track, strength and possible impact on Odisha is unclear. “After the formation of the system, the direction of its movement will be clear. So, it is difficult to predict about the impact on Odisha,” IMD DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said.

As Durga Puja celebrations kick off from October 16, the potential rainfall has created anxieties over the construction of pandals, decorations and the festive markets. There is not an official prediction of a cyclone yet, and it will be evident how the cyclone affects the state in the next two to three days.
