Apple has confirmed an issue causing some iPhone 18 Pro Max devices connected to AT&T facing connectivity issues as they are unable to complete calls/text/data, including to 911.

In addition, reports of 9to5Mac claims that the iPhone 18 Pro Max models that have already lost service will require a hardware replacement. This comes following Apple’s latest software and carrier updates to prevent the issue from affecting additional users.

The update for the iPhone 18 Pro Max  will reportedly automatically get downloaded over the next 14 days. Users can also download the update manually by going to Settings, choosing General, then About.

Apple stated that the latest update will make sure iPhone 18 Pro Max users on AT&T would not face more issues in the future. However, the update will not fix the issue for the device that have already been affected by the issue. So, all the iPhone 18 Pro Max users who have already lost service will need a hardware replacement.

Those users should contact Apple Support or AT&T, or visit an Apple Store or AT&T location.

The issue is that some iPhone 18 Pro Max can’t connect to AT&T’s network for calls, texts, and data. Instead, those users see “SOS” in their iPhone’s status bar.

Interestingly, the iPhone 18 Pro Max in the United States uses a Qualcomm modem. The iPhone 18 Pro, which uses Apple’s C2 modem, is unaffected by these AT&T connectivity issues.
