Puri: For Radharani Jagannath, age is just a number when it comes to serving the Lord. At 72, she has been offering dance as seva (service) before Mahaprabhu Jagannath for the last 26 years – and old age has never stood in her way.

A retired Bio scientist from Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), Radharani calls herself both a daughter and a daughter-in-law of Puri.

For her, dancing before the Lord is not performance, but prayer. “This is Mahaprabhu’s will,” she says with a smile.

“Where there is devotion, age never becomes a barrier.”

Today, as Lord Jagannath graced devotees in Hati Besha on the Snana Bedi, Radharani performed her dance solely to please Him. “I offer this seva only to win His heart,” she says.

Her surrender to the Lord runs so deep that she changed her name to Radharani Jagannath – merging her identity with His.

For over two decades, rain or shine, festival or quiet day, she arrives to dance. Not for an audience, not for applause, but for the One whose darshan makes her forget every ache of age.

In Puri, where faith moves mountains, Radharani proves it also moves feet – even at 72. Her life is a testament that bhakti knows no retirement, and devotion outlives the body’s limits.

Our correspondent Stuti Ranjan Pradhan spoke with Radharani Jagannath.
