Bhubaneswar:  Odisha’s push to build a homegrown clean-energy workforce took a concrete step forward as the World Skill Centre (WSC) teamed up with state-run hydro utility OHPC to build a dedicated solar training hub in the capital.

The planned Green Energy Centre of Excellence will occupy a 3,000-square-foot footprint at WSC’s Kaushal Bhawan facility in Mancheswar. OHPC is financing the entire project under its CSR mandate, pledging Rs 1,48,75,009 spread across FY 2026–27 and FY 2027–28.

Rather than sticking to textbook theory, the centre is geared around live industrial setups. Trainees will work directly on functioning rooftop systems, floating arrays, and solar trackers. The coursework pulls in advanced industrial tech—marrying electrical engineering with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) & SCADA, Industrial IoT, digital twins for predictive maintenance, and energy management software.

The target is straightforward: qualify 300 candidates every year for high-demand technical jobs, including solar PV technicians, site supervisors, O&M specialists, and energy auditors.

While admissions are open to youth across all 30 districts, organizers will run focused enrollment drives around OHPC operational belts. The program also incorporates UN Sustainable Development Goal 5 targets, aiming to pull more women into green-tech trades and spur small-scale local contracting.
