New Delhi: Andy Burnham announces a 10-year plan to raise living standards in the United Kingdom

Andy Burnham, the mayor of Greater Manchester, has published a decade-long plan for better living standards right across the UK.

It pledges what he terms “good growth in every postcode”, centring on developing economies at a regional level through investment in areas such as housing and reindustrialisation.

A central pillar is handing more power from the government in London to localities, with the plan proposing that local and regional institutions be empowered.

Reforms to public procurement would be made to aid British industries, and public spending could be redirected into improving technical skills.

It will also provide more employment and better public services, while upholding existing fiscal commitments.
