Massive fire at Dominican Republic hotel, Italian woman killed, 1700 tourists evacuated

SANTO DOMINGO: An Italian woman was killed and nearly 1,700 tourists were evacuated due to massive fire at a hotel in the Dominican beach resort of Bayahibe.
The deceased has been identified as Francesca Valentino ( 46), was killed in the fire at the Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach Hotel.
The Viva Dominicus Beach by Wyndham resort is located in Bayahibe, a popular destination for U.S. and international tourists on the Dominican Republic’s southeastern coast.

About 1,700 tourists had to be evacuated from the resort to other hotels and nearby housing facilities because of the massive blaze.
Videos shared by local media showed dark clouds of smoke billowing out above the Caribbean coastline, as flames engulfed the resort’s straw roof.
The fire was brought under control and the exact cause of the fire is being investigated.
