Bhubaneswar: A major expansion of India’s sovereign financial infrastructure will become operational on October 25, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Odisha to commission the Reserve Bank of India’s new Greenfield Data Centre alongside an Enterprise Computing and Cyber Security Training Institute.

Situated within Info Valley-II at Jatni, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, the 18.55-acre complex is designed to serve as the critical mirror and secondary backup to the central bank’s primary operational hub in Navi Mumbai.

The dual-purpose facility establishes a geographic contingency safeguard for core banking operations nationwide. By replicating central systems, the Jatni campus guarantees uninterrupted workflows across foundational operations—from processing high-volume payment data and handling currency distribution to pursuing technical research across frontier computational domains.

Jatni was selected specifically for its strategic insulation from both seismic activity and geopolitical hazards, ensuring India’s core financial databases remain protected against severe physical or structural shocks.

Beyond core data storage and systemic fail-safes, the integrated training wing will instruct technical personnel in counteracting sophisticated digital risks, addressing an escalating need for specialized cybersecurity talent across the banking network.

The upcoming commissioning marks the culmination of a project initiated in March 2023, when then-RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das presided over the laying of its foundation stone.
